LOWER SCHOOL PRINCIPAL  


Capital City Public Charter School seeks an outstanding instructional leader to serve as lower school principal beginning in July 2008.  Capital City is an award winning PK-8 learning community that values diversity and shared leadership.  We serve a student population consisting of 34% African-American, 34% White and 27% Latino students, and over 40% of our students qualify for free/reduced price lunch.  In 2007 Capital City had the highest reading and math scores among District charter elementary schools.  Capital City implements the Expeditionary Learning model in tandem with the Responsive Classroom social curriculum. Through Expeditionary Learning teachers craft expeditions that incorporate projects, research, fieldwork, and service to support students in meeting rigorous standards. Capital City uses the inclusion model with a school-wide focus on differentiating instruction and supporting students with learning needs.  We seek an administrative staff reflective of our student population.  African American and Latino candidates are encouraged to apply.

* The ability to communicate vision to a range of stakeholders including teachers, students, parents, staff and public
* Strong knowledge of child development that extends from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade
* Excellent communication skills and strategies

Minimum Requirements

* At least 3 years of successful teaching experience at the elementary and/or middle school level
* A master's degree in education or other related field*
* At least 3 years working with students in an urban setting*
* At least two years of leadership/supervisory experience in a school setting.
* Ability to speak Spanish and a current administrative credential are preferred, but not required.
