CAPITAL CITY PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL
An Expeditionary Learning School in Washington, DC

Founding Spanish Teacher

Capital City is looking for a dedicated & talented founding Spanish teacher for our new Upper School campus. The Capital City Upper School will open in fall 2008 with grades 6-9 and extend to 12th grade by 2011. Capital City serves a diverse population and seeks a teaching staff reflective of our student body.

The Spanish Teacher is responsible for further developing and defining the Spanish curriculum, teaching Spanish classes for grades 6-9, and involving students in cultural experiences.  The position also includes serving as a liaison with our Spanish speaking families and involving them in our program. The Spanish Teacher works closely with classroom teachers to plan developmentally appropriate activities and support learning expeditions and the individual needs of students.
The current Lower School, founded in 2000, serves students in grades PK-8 and is recognized as a national model for school reform.  In 2007 Capital City had the highest reading and math scores among District charter elementary schools.  Capital City implements the Expeditionary Learning model in tandem with the common principles of the Coalition of Essential Schools (CES).  Through Expeditionary Learning teachers craft expeditions that incorporate projects, research, fieldwork and service to support students in meeting rigorous standards. The CES principles emphasize equity, depth over breadth, student leadership, and authenticity.  Capital City's program also emphasizes a strong social curriculum, a commitment to diversity, a strong inclusion model and the integration of arts into the curriculum. There is a strong focus on professional development and a collegial atmosphere ideal for teacher learning and professional growth.
