Our after-school programming provides a vital role in empowering our students, developing strategic thinking skills, and building a vibrant community of young learners.

After School Activities

Middle School and High School After School Activities (grades 5 – 12)

Capital City offers a wide variety of seasonal sports, arts and enrichment activities after school for middle and high school students.  Activities are free and all students are encouraged to participate.  Given the wide age span served, not all activities are open to all grade levels.  Typical activities include:

  • Sports: soccer, flag football, cross country, cheerleading, lacrosse, swimming, softball, basketball, tennis, track and field
  • Arts: dance and step, drama, drumline, steel drum band, chorus, studio art, graffiti art
  • Enrichment: yearbook, debate, Botball®, student government, SAT/ACT Prep

 

Students participating in after school activities must maintain strong academics and complete homework.  Most activities are led by Capital City staff members from 3:30 – 5:30 pm. Snacks are provided.

Academic Support for Middle School and High School Students

Capital City offers a before and after school homework center for middle and high School students. There are also academic support initiatives offered on Saturdays and Wednesday afternoons.

 

Elementary Grade Clubs (Grades PreK – 4)

Capital City offers three six-week sessions of after school clubs to elementary school students in grades PreK – 4. There is a small fee for participation in a club but activities are free to families eligible for free and reduced priced meals.

Some clubs that have been offered in the past include: Spanish immersion, Lego club, cooking, Kid Hop, drama, chess, math club, and poetry club. Most activities are led by Capital City staff and are held one day a week from 3:15 – 4:30 pm.  Snacks are provided.
