Cerissa Brown, PK3/4 Classroom Teacher
Cerissa joined Capital City in August 2012. She holds a Masters of Science in Early Childhood Education with a teaching endorsement in English as a Second Language (ESL) from Erikson Institute and a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies and Psychology from Towson University. After receiving her degree from Towson University, she moved to Chicago to complete a 2-year Teach for America commitment at a head start in the west side of Chicago.
Prior to Capital City, Cerissa completed a year-long teaching internship in Chicago's Chinatown where she taught 26 Chinese-speaking second graders. She was a Barbara T. Bowman Scholarship recipient and TEACH Grant recipient. She has worked in an array of private, public, and charter preschool settings in Maryland, Chicago and DC in the past nine years.
At Capital City, Cerissa mentors teaching fellows from the Center for Inspired Teaching program. In her spare time, she likes to decorate her new home and spend time with family and friends. She also loves Asian Fusion foods and enjoys art activities such as coloring and painting.
