James Thomas, 2nd Grade Teaching Fellow
Jake joined Capital City in August 2017. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from The College of Wooster, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He is currently working on his Master in Teaching (MAT) at Trinity Washington University.
His love for teaching comes from teaching summer school to incoming 9th graders at Ceiba College Prep in Watsonville, California during his college years.
Prior to Capital City, Jake was a City Year AmeriCorps Member at Garfield Elementary School in Congress Heights providing Tier 1 support and small-group literacy intervention to 4th graders and a Reading Partners Site Coordinator providing one-on-one literacy instruction to K-3rd grade students.
He has some proficiency in Spanish and his hobbies include hiking, camping, basketball, ultimate frisbee, playing music, fly fishing, and eating pizza.
