Nicole Cummings

Nicole Cummings, Music Teacher

Nicole joined Capital City in August 2012. She holds a Master of Music in Flute Performance from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of New Hampshire.

Nicole is certified in Orff-Schulwerk from George Mason University. She is a certified "Little Kids Rock" instructor and licensed Zumba and Zumbatomic instructor. Nicole is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the American Orff-Schulwerk Association, and the Zumba Instructor Network.

Prior to Capital City, Nicole taught preschool through fifth grade general music at two DC Public Schools, flute master classes and music theory at the Summer Youth Music School in New Hampshire, and private flute lessons throughout the DC Metro region. Nicole is also a 2014 Fund for Teacher Awardee.

Her goal as an early childhood and elementary music educator is “to cultivate within every child a lifelong love of music and to empower children to experience music as a source of personal enrichment and enjoyment, an outlet for creativity, collaboration, and emotional expression, and as a challenging intellectual discipline.“

In 2018, Nicole attended the Orff Afrique course in Dzodze, Ghana and was acknowledged as a Capital City Trailblazer!

Her greatest joy and passion in life is working with children.
