Simmons Tucker-Hanson

Simmons Tucker-Hanson, Library & Technology Teacher

Simmons joined Capital City in 2011. She graduated with a Master of Science of Teaching in Elementary Education from Pace University in New York City and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Psychology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Prior to joining Capital City, Simmons started her teaching career at P.S. 28x in the Bronx through Teach for America. She taught first grade at Greer Elementary in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she found both Responsive Classroom and Expeditionary Learning. While at Greer, Simmons had the opportunity to visit Capital City as a Visiting Educator.

Simmons’ hobbies include cooking big meals, going to museums, and reading about news and current events. She also reads a lot of blogs and thoroughly enjoys the college basketball season. Go Heels!
