EdibleDC Award
EdibleDC Award

We are proud to announce Capital City won the EdibleDC Magazine Award for Best School Garden—People’s Choice! This is a clear reflection of the commitment and support of our diverse community and we are incredibly thankful for everyone who voted. The inaugural citywide award recognizes our School Garden Coordinator, Ryoko Yamamoto, and the students, parents, teachers and many local partners who have helped grow our school garden into the fun, educational and meaningful program it is today. Garden activities and nutrition experiences will continue to be an integral component of our curriculum for all students in PreK - 12th grade.

The next phase of our school garden program is to build an Edible Forest. This spring, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and Urban Forestry Administration (UFA) selected Capital City to be one of only two Edible Forest Gardens hosted on public lands in the District. This will be a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the complex symbiotic system of nature. We are excited to dig into this project this fall.
