Winning Athletes and Scholars

With over 20 clubs offered and 357 students across 5th-12th grade enrolled, our Middle School and High School after school spring activities provided students another venue to thrive!

From athletics and cooking to producing a musical, students were able to engage in a wide range of activities that sparked their interests and reinforced their abilities.

No debate about it

The Capital City debate team was named the Best High School Team and the best D.C based program across the entire season in the Washington Urban Debate League!

Debate team

During the final regional tournament, our debaters took to the podium to discuss this year’s complex topic on immigration reform. Thanks to coaches Mr. Hawk, Mr. Ng and Mrs. Yeager, students gained confidence and developed critical thinking and public speaking skills when they debated issues that affect our community such as immigration visas, asylum policy, and DACA!

On track to success

Track Team

Our High School girls track and field team won 2nd place among all DC charter schools in the PCSAA championships!

Led by coaches Mr. Bounds and Mrs. Tatum-Gormes, the team had a very competitive season. The Middle School girls won 3rd place in the MISAL Track Championships and the High School boys placed 6th overall.

It’s a musical

Musical club

The Wiley and the Hairy Man musical, produced by the musical club was a must-see show! For over 5 months, students spent their afternoons practicing and preparing for their opening performance. As middle school teacher Ms. Morenoff shared, "from the cast, crew, sound effects, actors, and direction, everything was wonderful."

Top chefs in the making

Cooking club
Cooking club

One of our most popular clubs every season is the Cooking Club. Students get to learn the basic skills of cooking and how to make nutritious meals! Taught by our very own school food manager Ms. Johnson, with support from Mrs. Robles, students mastered a variety of recipes, including how to make spaghetti from scratch and how to bake and decorate their own cakes!

Time to celebrate

The Middle School and High School sports end-of-year celebrations culminated this amazing season by recognizing our student athletes for their hard work and dedication. Students were acknowledged with a participation certificate and special awards.
