Collaborating with Springboard Collaborative

Our Lower School Summer Program brought to life our mission’s goal of students acquiring a love of learning.

"Our students really enjoyed summer programming this year!" shared Program Director Sandra Ponce. "They loved outdoor learning with Urban Adventure Squad, participated in weekly art and STEM projects, and I'm proud to say that our summer partnership with Springboard Collaborative led to our students reading over 800 books in 3 and a half weeks."

Through the Springboard Collaborative accelerated literacy program, staff provided targeted support to students and delivered weekly literacy workshops to equip families to support reading skills at home. "Students were very excited to receive free books each week, and families that attended our family workshops learned literacy tips that they can use at home with their students," Sandra explained. "Families got tips and practiced how to ask rich questions to support students retelling a story with details, and how to support students with breaking apart words and sounds, and putting them back together to read new words!"

"Thank you for having Adrian this summer. He was excited and ready to engage in his class," shared Lower School parent Manny. "Adrian was excited about improving his reading skills and applied those skills on the car rides as he read aloud to himself to build confidence. He did not dread having to go to school, instead he took it as an opportunity to learn. We're noticing his growth at home, too! Thank you for all your work this summer."
